The women’s elite race was dominated from the very beginning by Emma Pallant, who couldn’t have had a better birthday celebration than winning her second consecutive World title. Pallant was always in the small pack that led the race throughout the first laps of the run and the bike course. She went out on her own on the final 5km run for the victory at the last segment of running of the 10 km run/40 km bike / 5 km run course. Emma said “It was a great birthday present to be able to come out here today and defend my World Title, I raced smart and just made sure I was there for the 2nd run before just going for it on the last 5km, it was enough to win today, Im really happy!”
Michelle Dillon was also racing after being out of competitive sport for 10 years due to double fusion which forced Michelle to retire. Michelle was having a very solid race and was comfortably in the top 10 until severe hamstring cramp brought her to a holt in T2, she lost valuable time but fortunately she was able to get going again and was very happy to finish in 11th place, not bad for a 43 year old coach with a bad back! 🙂 Well done team great racing again, blogs to follow.
We also had Michelle Donnelly and David Stockwell racing in the Age Group races, it was their very first World Championships as a couple and it was a memorable experience for them both. They had fantastic races with Michelle finishing in 18th place and David in 32nd place they were both really pleased with the results and looking to represent GB later on this year!
